About
Ataur Rahman is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Analytical Chemistry and Microbiology at the Department of Chemistry, UiT The Arctic University of Norway. He is actively working on the NFR-funded CandRAS (Competence and education in land-based production of salmon in recirculation aquaculture systems) project linked to NFH, Nofima and Tromsø Aquaculture Research Station (Havbruksstasjonen i Tromsø).
Dr. Rahman's research focuses on discovering and developing novel antimicrobial compounds from marine resources, particularly those with potential to combat antibiotic resistance and biofilm formation. His work spans water chemistry (TOC, DOC, DOM), metabolomics, proteomics, salmon, RAS (Recirculating Aquaculture Systems), and aquaculture applications.
His extensive publication record demonstrates expertise in chemical synthesis of antimicrobial peptides, heterocyclic compounds with membranolytic properties, and marine-derived antibiofilm agents. Dr. Rahman's research shows a clear progression from fundamental marine bioprospecting to applied therapeutic development, with particular emphasis on structure-activity relationships and toxicity profiling of novel antimicrobial compounds.
Dr. Rahman is a member of the Marine Bioprospecting research group and the Chemical Synthesis and Analysis team at Realfagbygget C418. His collaborative work spans multiple institutions including NFH, Nofima, and Tromsø Aquaculture Research Station, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of his research at the intersection of chemistry, microbiology, and aquaculture.
