Asuka Sango

Asuka Sango is a Professor at Carleton College, where they have held the John W. Nason Professor of Asian Studies and Religion role since 2007. They also serve as Director of Cross-Cultural Studies and Director of the Center for Global and Regional Studies, reflecting interdisciplinary leadership in Asian Studies and Religious Studies.

Their research and teaching focus on Japanese Buddhism, the ethics of samurai culture, and the intersection of geography and cultural representation in mapping Japan. They offer courses such as RELG 282: Samurai - Ethics of Death and Loyalty, and ASST 285: Mapping Japan, the Real and the Imagined.
