Astrid Nilsson is a Researcher in Latin at the Centre for Languages and Literature, Lund University. Her work focuses on medieval and Renaissance Latin texts, particularly critical editions, historiography, and marginalia.
Her research projects include a critical edition of a 14th-century Latin translation of Marco Polo’s travels, funded by the CM Lerici Foundation, and studies on causation in ancient historiography with support from Åke Wiberg and Helge Ax:son Johnsons Foundations. She has also completed a monograph on King Eric XIV of Sweden’s marginalia, published in 2021.
Recent publications explore themes such as Lutheranism in Johannes and Olaus Magnus’ works, laughter in Gothic culture, and crisis narratives during the Reformation. Her articles span journals like Central European Cultures, Aigis, and Biblis, with subfields including Gothic identity, manuscript analysis, and Nordic history.

She has presented at international conferences in Albacete, Helsinki, and Marburg, and served as Secretary for academic congresses in Lund. Her expertise bridges Latin philology, manuscript studies, and cultural history, with a focus on Nordic and Italian Renaissance contexts.
