Astrid Kroon

Astrid Kroon is a Lecturer at Berklee College of Music’s First Year Abroad and Study Abroad programs in Valencia, Spain. Her academic role centers on vocal instruction across diverse musical genres, leveraging extensive performance expertise in opera, musical theater, and choral direction.

Education:

• Bachelor of Professional Studies in Physical Therapy, Academie voor Fysiotherapie (Netherlands, 1984)
• Lyrical vocal studies, Conservatory of Alicante (Spain, 1992–1996)

Research Focus: Kroon’s work bridges vocal pedagogy and performance artistry. Her interests include:

• Adapting vocal techniques for opera, musical theater, and contemporary styles
• Cultivating emotional expression and audience engagement
• Integrating physical awareness (from physiotherapy background) into vocal training

Awards:

• First-prize winner (female voices) and third prize overall, International Tournament of Music (Rome, 1998)

Artistic Career: She performed with the Broadway Dance Theater (Amsterdam), premiered musicals in the U.S., recorded three albums, and served as soprano soloist for the Youth Orchestra of the Valencian Community.
