Assar Lindbeck (1930-2020) was Professor of International Economics at Stockholm University and Director of the Institute for International Economic Studies (1971-1995). A Nobel Memorial Prize committee chair (1980-1994), he developed the influential insider-outsider theory of labor markets with Dennis Snower.
His research spanned macroeconomics, welfare state dynamics, and economic systems. Lindbeck chaired Sweden's 1992-93 Economic Commission during the financial crisis, proposing 113 reform measures.
