About
Ashutosh Sharma is a Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. His academic career spans several decades with significant contributions to the field of soft nanotechnology and materials science.
Dr. Sharma received his B.Tech from IIT Kanpur in 1982, followed by an M.S. from Penn State in 1984, and completed his PhD from SUNY Buffalo in 1987.
His research focuses on soft nanotechnology, colloids & interfaces, complex fluids, thin films, and functional materials. Specifically, he investigates nanofabrication and patterning, self-organized patterns and instabilities in thin films, electrospun materials, wetting, adhesion and friction at soft interfaces, biomaterials & biosurfaces, and multiscale MEMS/NEMS & microfluidic systems. His work bridges fundamental science with practical applications in environment, health, and energy sectors.
Dr. Sharma has been recognized with numerous prestigious awards including the Syed Husain Zaheer Medal from the Indian National Science Academy (2011), the Infosys Prize in Engineering and Computer Science (2010), and the R.C. Mehrotra Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award (2010). He is also an elected Fellow of TWAS--The World Academy of Sciences.
As an academic leader, Dr. Sharma has served as Associate Editor for ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces since 2014 and was Coordinator & PI for the DST Unit on Nanosciences from 2007-2016. His research has resulted in numerous high-impact publications in top-tier journals.
