Ashley Laverock is a Professor of Art History at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) since 2017. Previously, she served as a part-time faculty member there (2016–2017) and held roles such as a graduate assistant, research assistant, and visual resources specialist at institutions including Emory University and Tufts University. Her academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Art History from Emory University (2009–2014), an M.A. from Tufts University, and a B.A. from Southern Methodist University.
Her research focuses on medieval art, particularly stained glass and hagiography, exploring themes like religious iconography, cultural interactions, and the materiality of medieval devotional practices. Notable works include analyses of St. Margaret of Antioch’s iconography in stained glass and manuscripts, and studies on the cultural dynamics of early medieval religious art in Jordan.
Laverock has contributed to over a dozen academic conferences and publications, including a chapter in Decoding Medieval Sources: Stained Glass (2019). She has received awards such as the Mellon-Funded Sawyer Seminar Fellowship and the Dean’s Teaching Fellowship. Her professional affiliations include the Hagiography Society and the Medieval Academy of America.
Her career spans teaching, curatorial research, and collaborative projects, reflecting a commitment to interdisciplinary approaches in medieval art studies. She has advised multiple research initiatives and contributed to institutional roles like the Mellon-funded Sawyer Seminar and the High Museum of Art’s curatorial projects.
