Asher Courtemanche is a third-year PhD student and Lecturer in the Department of Literatures in English at Cornell University. Their research focuses on homoeroticism, unrequited love, and pastoral poetry in Renaissance and 18th-century literature, with an emphasis on classical reception (e.g., Ovid, Vergil, Catullus) and methodologies from Indigenous Studies. They examine the ontology of Land in early modern pastoral literature through the lens of colonialism, labor, and property. Secondary interests include 20th/21st-century American and British literature, Modernism, queer poetics, and Indigenous literature.
Teaching: In Spring 2025, they taught ENGL 1105: FWS: Writing and Sexual Politics.
