Asheley R. Landrum

Asheley R. Landrum serves as an Associate Professor at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication and holds the title of Senior Global Futures Scientist at Arizona State University. Her research program investigates how values and worldviews shape information selection and processing across the lifespan, bridging academic scholarship with practical communication applications.

Landrum's educational background includes a PhD in Psychological Sciences from the University of Texas at Dallas, focusing on children's social-cognitive development, followed by two postdoctoral fellowships: one in Psychology at the University of Louisville and another as a Howard Deshong Postdoctoral Fellow at the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania.

Her research spans critical areas including Audience Engagement, children's interaction with science media, Confirmation Bias, Conspiracy Theorizing, Identity formation, Media Literacy, and Misinformation dynamics. Landrum emphasizes developmental trajectories from childhood into adulthood, with particular attention to political socialization and public understanding of science.

She has been recognized as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and currently serves on the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine's consensus panel addressing scientific misinformation.

Landrum's work has received funding from the National Science Foundation and Templeton Religion Trust. She actively cultivates researcher-practitioner partnerships with KQED public media, PBS Digital Studios, and Anderson Cooper 360 on CNN to translate research into journalism practice.

She directs the Views & Values Lab, which examines psychological mechanisms underlying information processing through value-based frameworks, with implications for science communication and media literacy initiatives.
