Ashanthi Maxworth is an Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Southern Maine (USM), affiliated with the College of Science, Technology, & Health and the Department of Engineering. She joined USM in Fall 2020 after completing a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Saskatchewan. Her academic journey includes a PhD (2017) and MS (2014) from the University of Colorado Denver, and a BSc (2010) from the University of Moratuwa in Sri Lanka.
Dr. Maxworth's research focuses on electromagnetic wave propagation modeling in near-Earth space, antenna design for biomedical/space applications, and low-frequency data analysis. She has authored over 10 peer-reviewed publications and presented at 40+ conferences. Her work bridges computational electromagnetics with observational space physics, emphasizing ionosphere-magnetosphere interactions.
- Key Achievements:
- Recipient of Young Scientist Award (International Union of Radio Scientists, 2018)
- Ernest K. Smith Student Paper Award (2017)
- Grace Hopper Scholarship (2016)
With over 10 years of teaching experience across three countries, she has instructed courses in electric circuits, electromagnetism, digital communications, and technical programming at institutions including University of Colorado Boulder and University of Moratuwa. She is a member of IEEE, AGU, and the Sri Lanka Institution of Engineers.
