About
Asela Abeya is a Lecturer in Applied Mathematics at the Mathematics + Physics Department of SUNY Polytechnic Institute since 2022. Previously, he served as an Instructor and Teaching Assistant at SUNY Buffalo.
- PhD in Mathematics (2022, SUNY Buffalo)
- MSc in Mathematics (2017, SUNY Buffalo)
His research focuses on nonlinear wave phenomena, integrable systems, and partial differential equations with applications to physical systems. He has contributed to the study of inverse scattering transforms, Whitham modulation theory, and soliton dynamics in Bose-Einstein condensates.
Recent publications explore Maxwell-Bloch systems, defocusing nonlinear Schrodinger equations, and Manakov systems with complex boundary conditions. His work bridges mathematical analysis with concrete physical applications.
Scientific Awards
- Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship (SUNY Buffalo, Spring 2022)
- Teaching Assistant Scholarship (SUNY Buffalo, Fall 2015 - Spring 2019)
- Research Assistant Scholarship (SUNY Buffalo, Spring 2019)
He has reviewed for Communications in Nonlinear Science and Numerical Simulation and Chaos, Solitons and Fractals. As a founding member and Treasurer of the SIAM UB student chapter (2021), he actively contributes to academic community-building.
