About
Arya Mani, MD, is the Robert W Berliner Professor of Internal Medicine (Cardiology) and Professor of Genetics at Yale School of Medicine. He directs the Cardiovascular Genetics Program and the Cardiovascular Module. His work focuses on genetic causes of cardiovascular diseases, metabolic disorders, and inherited arrhythmias. He completed his MD at Johannes Gutenberg University (1991), followed by training at Yale in Internal Medicine and postdoctoral genetics under Richard Lifton.
- Education:
- M.D., Johannes Gutenberg University, 1991
- Residency & Fellowship: Yale University (Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Genetics)
Research Interests:
Dr. Mani’s lab investigates genetic determinants of coronary artery disease, metabolic syndrome, and congenital heart defects. Key discoveries include identifying LRP6 and DYRK1B mutations as monogenic causes of MetS/NASH and elucidating Wnt signaling pathways in vascular remodeling. His work bridges genetic studies with translational therapies targeting lipid metabolism and insulin resistance.
Publications reflect a focus on cardiovascular genetics, lipid metabolism, and genetic arrhythmias. Recent work explores therapeutic targets for NASH, hypertension, and familial atrial fibrillation.
- Scientific Awards:
- NIH Outstanding Investigator Award (2017)
- Doris Duke Clinical Scientist Development Award (2008)
- Howard Hughes Medical Institute Fellowship (2001)
He leads the Yale Cardiovascular Genetics Program and collaborates internationally to study inherited cardiovascular disorders. His lab is affiliated with the Yale Cardiovascular Research Center and the Yale Center for Genomic Health.
