Arthur Mason is an Associate Professor in Social Anthropology at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), with additional affiliations as a Research Affiliate at the Centre for Energy Ethics (University of St Andrews) and Research Associate at the Arctic Institute of North America (University of Calgary). He holds a Visiting Senior Fellowship at the London School of Economics (LSE) Department of Anthropology. His expertise spans energy security, ecological vulnerability in the Global North, and Arctic Late Industrialism.
Mason’s research focuses on the interplay between energy systems, political decision-making, and environmental impacts, with over two decades of fieldwork in the Arctic. Key works include Energy Capitol (2024), exploring regulatory politics in U.S. energy infrastructure, and the edited volumes Arctic Abstractive Industry (2022) and Subterranean Estates (2015), which examine resource extraction’s ecological and sociocultural dimensions. His forthcoming book Consulting Energy (2025) analyzes elite decision-making dynamics in global energy sectors.
