Art Pyster is a Professor in the Department of Systems Engineering and Operations Research and currently serves as the Associate Dean for Research in the College of Engineering and Computing (CEC) at George Mason University. His career spans leadership roles in telecommunications, aerospace, defense, air traffic control, education, and computing sectors. He holds a PhD and MS in Computer and Information Sciences from The Ohio State University and a BS in Mathematics from the University of Illinois.
His research focuses on systems engineering methodologies, including the development and maintenance of the Systems Engineering Body of Knowledge (SEBoK), a globally accessed resource. He oversees the CEC’s $400M research portfolio and has led high-impact initiatives like the Systems Engineering Research Center. His technical contributions include pioneering low-defect telecommunications systems and leading FAA information security and IT policy efforts.
