A. (Arnab) Dutta is a Lecturer of European Politics and Society at the University of Groningen’s Faculty of Arts. He holds an MA in Euroculture from a joint program at Göttingen, Groningen, and Uppsala universities, and a BA from Jadavpur University, where he won the University Gold Medal. His research focuses on interwar intellectual exchanges between Germany and India, cultural history of Modern Europe and South Asia, and postcolonial studies.
He has held positions as Secretary of the PhD Council of the Faculty of Arts (2018–19) and as a PhD member of the University Committee for Academic Practice (UCW). His affiliations include the Huizinga Institute and Uppsala University’s interdisciplinary network on 'Anxiety'.
Key awards include the 2018 ALBA Award for his MA thesis on South Asian perceptions of European borders, the Duke of Arenberg Award, and a DAAD fellowship for research at Freie Universität Berlin. His current project explores German intellectual influences on Bengali nationalism during 1919–45, supervised by Prof. Dirk Jan Wolffram and Prof. Clemens Six.
Dutta has taught courses on European integration, historiography of South Asia and East Africa, and political theory. He has been a visiting fellow at institutions like the European University Institute and Harvard University.
