Armin Zanner

Armin Zanner is Vice Principal & Director of Music at Guildhall School, where he previously served as Head of Vocal Studies (2012–2021) and Interim Director of Music (2021–2023). Born in Glasgow to Scottish and German parents, he began his career as a violinist, studied at Selwyn College, Cambridge, and transitioned to specialize as a baritone singer at Guildhall. He has performed internationally in recital, concert, and opera settings.

• Education: MPhil in Music (Béla Bartók thesis) at Selwyn College, Cambridge.

His work focuses on expanding student performance opportunities, integrating performer health into vocal training, and fostering international collaborations with institutions like the Barbican, Wigmore Hall, and Royal Opera. He established the '...at Six' concert series and commissioned new music for initiatives such as the 'Reflective Conservatoire' and 'Extraordinary Voices Festival.'

Armin is actively involved in global music education, having led masterclasses at institutions including the Sibelius Academy and Buchmann-Mehta School of Music. He serves on competition juries (e.g., Donatella Flick LSO Conducting Competition, Korean Voice Competition) and has published writings with Bloomsbury and in UK/US magazines. He is also the artistic director of the Innovative Conservatoire and a trustee of NW Live Arts, a charity using classical music to explore themes like migration and mental health.
