Arlene McGarty is Research Fellow in Mental Health & Wellbeing at the University of Glasgow. Her research investigates physical activity patterns, sedentary behaviors, and health inequalities in children and adults with intellectual disabilities. She develops novel measurement methodologies including accelerometer calibration protocols specific to this population.
McGarty leads studies examining social and environmental determinants of physical activity, with recent work funded by the Baily Thomas Charitable Fund. Her interdisciplinary collaborations focus on developing targeted interventions to improve health outcomes.
