Arjun Venkatesan

Arjun Venkatesan is an Associate Professor in Civil & Environmental Engineering at NJIT and Director of the Emerging Contaminants Research Laboratory (ECRL). His research focuses on emerging contaminants in water systems, particularly PFAS and 1,4-dioxane, with expertise in treatment technologies, environmental fate, and health impacts. He holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from Arizona State University.

Dr. Venkatesan develops advanced treatment methods including biologically active filtration, electron beam technology, and novel adsorbents for contaminant removal. His work spans field investigations of contamination events (e.g., firefighting foam spills), laboratory analysis of treatment efficacy, and examination of ecological health impacts through bioaccumulation studies in aquatic systems.

His research has been featured in National Geographic, PBS, and NIH publications, with funding from NSF, DoD, DOE, and state agencies. Recent work examines PFAS accumulation in marine ecosystems and innovative water treatment solutions.
