About
Arild Gustavsen is a Professor in building physics at the Department of Architecture and Technology, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). He leads research in sustainable built environments, including heat/air/moisture transfer, energy-efficient materials, and zero-emission neighborhoods. His work spans academic roles (since 2007), industry collaboration (e.g., SINTEF), and international projects (e.g., Lawrence Berkeley Lab). He directed the FME ZEB (2012–2017) and ZEN (2016–2022) research centers focusing on decarbonizing urban systems.
Education:
- MSc in Environmental Physics (1996)
- PhD in Building Physics (2001)
Research Focus: Sustainable architecture, energy-efficient buildings, urban climate strategies, and lifecycle emissions. His studies address building envelope systems, renewable integration, and neighborhood-scale decarbonization.
Key Projects: ZEN Center (FME) develops low-carbon neighborhoods; ZEB Lab tests innovative building materials. Collaborations include global surveys on net-zero building standards (IEA EBC Annex 72).
