Ariful Bhuiyan is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering in the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Houston-Clear Lake, specializing in biomechanics and medical device design. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Texas Tech University focused on biomechanical modeling of knee ligaments.
His current NIH-funded research involves evaluating novel total knee replacement designs through animal studies and finite element analysis. Additional research explores 3D-printed biomedical devices for spinal disc replacement. He utilizes advanced simulation tools including ABAQUS/EXPLICIT and Python for medical device innovation.
Professor Bhuiyan mentors student teams for NASA competitions including Robotic Mining and NASA MINDS. His teaching spans core mechanical engineering courses including Statics, Dynamics, Machine Design, and Finite Element Analysis.
