Ariel E. Seay-Howard

Ariel E. Seay-Howard is an Assistant Professor of Communication at North Carolina State University, specializing in rhetoric, race, and public history. Her research focuses on how societies remember slavery and racial violence through memorials, museums, and documentary films, challenging sanitized historical narratives. She holds a Ph.D. in Communication, Rhetoric and Digital Media and is affiliated with the Department of Communication and its Ph.D. program.

Dr. Seay-Howard’s work emphasizes counter-memories that highlight marginalized perspectives, aiming to foster communal healing and reframe discussions about history’s impact on contemporary racial dynamics. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges rhetoric, public history, and critical race theory.
