About
Ari Laptev is a Professor of Pure Mathematics at Imperial College London since 2007 and Director of the Sirius Mathematical Centre in Sochi, Russia, since 2019. He previously served as Director of the Institut Mittag-Leffler (2011-2018) and held academic positions at KTH Stockholm and University of Linköping.
- Research Focus: Spectral theory of partial differential operators, Lieb-Thirring inequalities, Hardy inequalities, and mathematical physics.
- Scientific Leadership: President of the European Mathematical Society (2007-2010), Head of the Mathematics Department at Imperial (2008-2010), and Chairman of ERCOM (2015-2018).
Recent research trends include non-selfadjoint operators, spectral bounds for Schrödinger-type operators, and Hardy/Sobolev inequalities in antisymmetric and magnetic contexts. His 2025–2022 publications emphasize eigenvalue estimates on Carnot groups, Riesz means, and toroidal/compact manifold geometries.
- Scientific Awards:
- Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award (2007)
- Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences (2012)
- Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences (2020)
