About
Dr. Aram Amassian is a Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at North Carolina State University (NC State), leading the Amassian Group focused on energy materials and scalable manufacturing. He holds a B.Eng. (2001) and Ph.D. (2006) from Polytech Montréal, followed by a postdoc at Cornell University. Prior to NCS State, he was an Assistant Professor at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) from 2009–2018. His research emphasizes solution-processed organic and hybrid perovskite photovoltaics, in-situ characterization, and robotics-driven materials discovery. He has authored over 210 peer-reviewed publications and secured >20,000 citations (h-index 73), with honors including the SABIC Chair and Royal Society of Chemistry membership.
Research interests include: energy materials, photovoltaic device engineering, and sustainable manufacturing. His lab, the Ambient Manufacturing of Electronics (AME), integrates robotics and AI to accelerate formulation-process-structure-property relationships. Collaborations span interdisciplinary teams and industry partners like Sony and Bay Nano Technologies. Outreach includes the NSF-funded REU program and STEM education initiatives (e.g., Catalyst Program).
Current grants focus on perovskite stability, robotic experimentation, and climate-resilient built environments. His work addresses global challenges in renewable energy and sustainable technology, emphasizing scalability and eco-friendly practices.
