About
Professor Aparna Singh is a faculty member in the Department of Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay). She earned her BTech from IIT Kanpur and a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from MIT. Her professional experience includes roles at Intel, USA, and EPFL, Switzerland, before joining IIT Bombay.
Her research focuses on the mechanical behavior of advanced materials, with emphasis on fracture, fatigue, tribology, and nanostructured materials. She investigates damage tolerance in materials for renewable energy and biomedical applications, including prosthetics and polymer encapsulation, as well as microstructural characterization and back-end processing in microelectronics.
The recent publications reflect a strong trend in the mechanical performance of nano-twinned copper under extreme conditions, combining experimental and microstructural analysis. Additional work extends into biomaterials, particularly in neural tissue engineering using alginate scaffolds.
