Anya Waite is a Professor in the Department of Oceanography at Dalhousie University, affiliated with the Ocean Frontier Institute. She holds leadership roles as Associate Vice-President Research (Ocean) at Dalhousie and Scientific Director of the Ocean Frontier Institute since 2018. Previously, she was a Professor of Oceanography at the University of Bremen and Section Head of Polar Biological Oceanography at the Alfred Wegener Institute.
Education:
- BSc in Biology, Dalhousie University
- PhD in Biological Oceanography, University of British Columbia
- Postdoctoral positions at WHOI (USA) and Victoria University (New Zealand)
Research Interests: Focuses on nitrogen fluxes in polar oceans, particle dynamics in mesoscale eddies, and biological oceanography. Early work included the Southern Ocean Iron Fertilization Experiment (SOIREE) and studies on mesoscale eddies in the East Indian Ocean.
