Antony Pemberton is a Senior Researcher at the Netherlands Institute for the Study of Crime and Law Enforcement (NSCR) and a Professor of Restorative Justice at KU Leuven's LINC (Law, Innovation and Technology Center). He concurrently holds a Professorship in Victimology at Tilburg University, where he previously served as Director of the INTERVICT institute (2016–2019). His academic journey includes a PhD from Tilburg University (2010) and a Master’s in Political Science from Radboud University Nijmegen.
His research focuses on narrative victimology, cultural victimology, ethics, supranational victimology, and restorative justice. Key themes include victims' rights within criminal justice systems, legal fictions in victim participation, and the psychological impact of victimization. Pemberton has authored over 50 publications, including books on victimology and contributions to international legal frameworks.
Pemberton actively contributes to policy and practice through roles such as Member of the Board of Restorative Justice the Netherlands and Member of the Executive Committee of the World Society of Victimology. His work bridges academia and real-world applications, emphasizing victim-centered approaches and systemic accountability.
Recent research highlights include studies on help-seeking behaviors of sexual violence victims, compensation predictability in legal systems, and the psychological dimensions of victimization. His interdisciplinary approach integrates law, psychology, and sociology to address victimology’s evolving challenges.
