Antonis Pittas (b. 1973, Athens) is a tutor at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and Honorary Fellow of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Amsterdam. His research focuses on 'Recycling History: contemporising history/historicising the contemporary.' Pittas holds a multidisciplinary background, having studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts, Piet Zwart Institute (Rotterdam), and Sandberg Institute (Amsterdam). He has been an artist-in-residence at Bard College's Center for Curatorial Studies and has taught at institutions including Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Hildesheim University, and the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts.
Key exhibitions include solo shows at the National Museum of Contemporary Art (Athens), Centraal Museum (Utrecht), and group participations in EKO8 International Triennial (Maribor), Manifesta 12 (Palermo), and MACRO Museum Testaccio (Rome). His work interrogates historical narratives through installations, performances, and multimedia projects.
Pittas currently teaches in the Bachelor Fine Arts program at the Royal Academy of Art and has previously held guest professor roles across Europe and the US. His research explores intersections between art, history, and contemporary socio-political discourse.
