Dr. Antonio Giustozzi is a Visiting Professor at King's College London's Department of War Studies, affiliated with RUSI. His expertise focuses on conflict dynamics in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and broader jihadist movements. He holds a PhD from LSE (2000) and a BA in Contemporary History from the University of Bologna. Previously associated with the LSE Crisis States Research Centre until 2011, he served with UNAMA in 2003-2004.
His research emphasizes security sector reform, state-building challenges, and the evolution of insurgent groups. Recent work includes analyzing Afghan-Taliban dynamics, global jihadist networks, and the Wagner Group's regional impact. He has authored over 10 books on Afghanistan's conflict history, including seminal works like Empires of Mud and Koran, Kalashnikov and Laptop.
Giustozzi's policy contributions include AREU reports on nomad-settler conflicts and Jane's Security Monitor analyses on South Asian terrorism. He frequently presents at institutions like RUSI, recently discussing Wagner Group perceptions in Africa/Middle East (27 March 2025 event).
