Antonia Hammer

Antonia Hammer is a Researcher at the Zoological Institute and Museum, University of Greifswald, affiliated with the Applied Zoology and Nature Conservation department. She is currently pursuing her PhD within the RESPONSE Research Training Group.

Research Interests

Her work focuses on the range expansion and migratory behavior of the lesser horseshoe bat (Rhinolophus hipposideros), analyzing genetic data from fecal samples and acoustic monitoring to model dispersal and colonization mechanisms under climate change. She investigates how populations recover from historical declines caused by habitat destruction, agricultural intensification, and pesticide use, with a focus on conservation planning.

Her 2021 publication in Agriculture, Ecosystems & Environment examines differential responses of bat guilds to habitat loss and fragmentation in South African macadamia orchards, emphasizing the importance of multi-scale conservation strategies.
