About
Prof. Antonia Denkova is a full Professor and Head of the Applied Radiation & Isotopes section within the Department of Radiation Science & Technology at the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Delft University of Technology. She was promoted to full professor in July 2025, having served as Associate Professor since 2019 and Assistant Professor from 2009 to 2018.
Her educational background includes a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering (2008) and an MSc in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering (2003), both from Delft University of Technology.
Prof. Denkova's research focuses on radiochemistry and nuclear medicine, with key areas including the production of medical radionuclides, safe alpha-radionuclide therapy, and the development of nanocarriers for combined therapies. She is recognized as the driving force in this field in the Netherlands. Her work spans
- radionuclide production and chemical separation
- radiolabelling and nuclear spectroscopy
- targeting for imaging and therapy
- chemical speciation and radiometalloproteomics
She leads the Applied Radiation & Isotopes (ARI) research group, which conducts projects on isotope production, targeted alpha therapy, nanoparticles for image-guided thermo-brachytherapy, and polymeric nanocarriers for chemo-radiotherapy. Additionally, Prof. Denkova is a dedicated educator, teaching courses such as Nuclear Science (CH 3771) and Nuclear Chemistry (CH 3791).
