Anthony Santoro

Anthony Santoro serves as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at Murdoch University's Harry Butler Institute, focusing on conservation of the southwestern snake-necked turtle (Chelodina oblonga) in Western Australia.

He completed his Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Science at Murdoch University between 2018 and 2022, establishing foundational research on freshwater turtle population dynamics.

Dr. Santoro's work centers on Herpetology and Conservation Biology, specifically examining threats from urbanization, invasive predators, and climate change to freshwater ecosystems. His innovative approach includes developing the 'Turtle Trackers' citizen science project at Bibra Lake, which successfully protects nesting females and has expanded into the statewide 'Saving Our Snake-Necked Turtle' (SOSNT) initiative aiming to establish community monitoring teams across the species' range.

The SOSNT project maintains active engagement through dedicated social media channels for community outreach and conservation awareness.
