Anthony Paul Domestico is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Literature at Purchase College, SUNY, and the books columnist for Commonweal. His scholarly work bridges modernist literature, intellectual history, and theological inquiry, with a focus on the interplay between poetry and religion in the early 20th century. He teaches courses on modernism, the lyric tradition, science fiction, and authors like Jane Austen and Flannery O’Connor, while maintaining a prolific career as a literary critic.
Domestico’s research centers on modernist literature’s engagement with religious thought, exemplified by his book Poetry and Theology in the Modernist Period (Johns Hopkins University Press). He has contributed essays to journals such as Religion and Literature, Literature and Theology, and Journal of Modern Periodical Studies, as well as reviews in The Atlantic, Boston Globe, and Washington Post.
