Professor Anthony Coates is Professor of Medical Microbiology at St George’s, University of London, specializing in antibiotic development and tuberculosis research. He co-invented a platform technology for novel antimicrobial combinations and founded Helperby Therapeutics.
His research examines dormant tuberculosis metabolism and antibiotic combinations against drug-resistant pathogens. He received £7M in grants from MRC, Wellcome Trust, and EU consortia including BacATTACK and PredictTB.
He chairs the International Consortium for Trials of Chemotherapeutic Agents in Tuberculosis and serves on the GARDP Scientific Advisory Committee. His inventions are protected by 128 international patents.
