Anthony C Arend

Anthony Clark Arend is Professor of Government and Foreign Service and Chair of the Department of Government at Georgetown University. He previously served as Senior Associate Dean for Graduate and Faculty Affairs (2015-2018) and Director of the Master of Science in Foreign Service Program (2008-2017).

His research examines international law, national security law, international legal theory, and human rights. Arend co-founded the Institute for International Law & Politics and has published several books including 'Legal Rules and International Society' and 'International Law and the Use of Force: Beyond the UN Charter Paradigm'. He received the John Carroll Award in 2017.
