His research focuses on Greek, Latin, and Syriac theologies from 100–600 CE, with specialties in Irenaeus of Lyons, early Christian pneumatology, binitarian/trinitarian theology, and Christology. He explores the influence of Jewish thought and ancient philosophical/rhetorical theories on these theological developments.

- MDiv, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (2000)
- BA, Cedarville University (1997)
Briggman’s first book analyzed the Jewish roots of Irenaeus’ pneumatology, while his second addressed metaphysical dimensions of Irenaeus’ theological framework. Current work examines early Christian use of ancient scientific theories (2nd–7th centuries) to explain Christology. He is on research leave for the 2024–25 academic year.
No specific awards or grants are listed, but his interdisciplinary contributions bridge theology, history, and ancient science. He has engaged in university worship services, including a 2016 Service of Word and a 2015 Service of Word and Table.
