Dr. Anre Venter is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Notre Dame's College of Arts and Letters. As Director of Undergraduate Studies for both psychology and neuroscience programs, he administers academic programs and advises 450-500 majors. He earned his PhD and MA from the University of Notre Dame, an MA from Pepperdine University, and a BA from the University of Cape Town.
His research examines the philosophy and psychology of self, social perception, and impression formation. Current teaching includes Social Psychology, Introductory Psychology, and interdisciplinary courses exploring psychology-architecture intersections. His scholarly work investigates how individuals form impressions of others and conceptualize identity.
Recent publications focus on heroism identification methodologies and parapsychology research evaluation. Awards recognize excellence in undergraduate teaching (2018 Joyce Award) and advising (2011 Dockweiler Award). He mentors numerous graduate students through thesis committees and directs undergraduate research projects examining self-concept development.
