Anoop Sarkar is a Professor in the School of Computing Science at Simon Fraser University (SFU), leading the Natural Language Lab. His research focuses on multilingual natural language processing, machine learning applications in NLP, and machine reading with visualization techniques. He has held significant grants including NSERC Discovery Accelerator Supplements (2012–2023) and multiple Google/IBM Faculty Awards. His teaching includes advanced NLP courses and compiler design. Over 38 students have graduated under his supervision, with a strong emphasis on computational linguistics and machine translation.
His research explores areas such as statistical machine translation, decipherment of ancient scripts, and semi-supervised learning.
