Anny Castilla-Earls is a Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Houston. Her research program focuses on language assessment and disorders in Spanish-speaking monolingual and bilingual children, with NIH-funded projects examining grammatical markers of language impairment across bilingual proficiency levels.
Education: Ph.D. in Speech-Language Pathology from University of Toronto, M.S. in Bilingual Education from Universidad del Valle, Colombia.
Research Focus: Three interconnected strands: 1) Identification of stable grammatical markers differentiating typical bilingual development from language disorders, 2) Impact of language exposure shifts on bilingual grammaticality, and 3) Implementation science for evidence-based assessment practices in educational and clinical settings. Her work combines experimental linguistics, psycholinguistic methods, and clinical validation studies.
Teaching: Teaches undergraduate and graduate courses including Language Development (COMD 2339) and bilingual assessment methodologies.
