About
Prof. Dr. Annette Zimmer is a Senior Professor of Comparative Politics and Social Policy at the University of Münster's Institute of Political Science (IfPol). Her work focuses on civil society governance, nonprofit management, and social policy, with interdisciplinary collaborations in urban resilience and cultural institutions. She co-founded the Nonprofit Management and Governance program at WWU Weiterbildung gGmbH, coordinating modules on sectoral contexts and governance frameworks.
Her research spans global projects like the BMBF-funded RUC initiative (resilient African megacities) and DFG's 'Was für ein Theater?' analyzing theater governance in DACH countries. She has advised doctoral students (e.g., Roman Turczynski's 2023 dissertation on civil society theory) and contributes to policy dialogues on chronic illness care via the KROKIDS Foundation.
Recent publications (2022–2023) address nonprofit sector resilience, gender dynamics in German NGOs, and comparative governance models. She maintains active roles in academic networks, including the EU-funded TSI and EFES-EIIS projects, and supervises research on urban social enterprises and theater institutional crises.
