Annette Werberger

Prof. Dr. Annette Werberger holds the Professorship for Eastern European Literatures at the Faculty of Cultural Studies, Europa-Universität Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder), Germany. Her work centers on interdisciplinary European literary history with emphasis on Central and Eastern Europe.

Research spans:

• Literary/intellectual history of Polish, Ukrainian, Russian, Yiddish, and Austrian traditions
• Folklore and world literature dynamics
• European asynchronies and Western-Eastern interrelationships
• Jewish culturalizations in East Central Europe
• Avant-garde intervening practices
• Central European intellectual history (including anarchism)
• Institutional frameworks of 'minor literatures'

Prof. Werberger supervises PhD candidates (Promotions) and leads a research team. She is currently on research leave during the summer semester of 2025.
