About
Annette Ruppel Rodrigues is a Lecturer in the Department of Modern Languages and Classics at the University of Maine, Orono. She teaches German language courses (GER 101-204, GER 305-307, GER 404, and MLC 190) and focuses on practical German for professions and translation. She holds an MAT in German from the University of Maine and a B.A. in Social Work from Fachhochschule Köln (Germany).
Her research explores Hessian soldiers and loyalists in Maine during the American Revolution, including their families and contributions to colonial history. She has presented at conferences such as the Maritime Education Summit (2014), Atlantic Canada Studies Conference (2014), and the Penobscot Valley Senior College (2015). Her work includes translating historical documents like letters from the Bancroft Collection and the play Der Hessische Officier in Amerika (performed in 2011).
She has secured grants, including a UMHI Public Humanities Grant (2013) for research on Franz von Papen correspondence and a Maine Humanities Council grant (2011) for community outreach. Rodrigues advises the German Club and coordinates study abroad programs through the New England Universities Study Abroad Program.
