Annelle Sheline

Annelle Sheline serves as Assistant Adjunct Professor at Georgetown while concurrently holding positions as Research Fellow at Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, Non-resident Senior Fellow at Arab Center Washington DC, and Non-resident Fellow at Rice University's Baker Institute. She resigned from the U.S. State Department in 2024 over policy differences regarding Israel-Gaza conflict.

Research examines U.S. militarism in the Middle East, impacts of Global War on Terror, and religious identity politics. Her scholarly work analyzes how Arab governments promote 'moderate Islam' to signal alignment with U.S. objectives.
