Anneke Smit

Anneke Smit is Associate Professor and founding Director of the Centre for Cities at the University of Windsor's Faculty of Law. She holds a PhD from the University of Reading, LLB from McGill University, and Bachelor of Music from the University of Alberta. Her research examines municipal governance, land use planning, property law, and spatial justice.

As Centre for Cities director, she leads interdisciplinary research on equitable city-building, addressing challenges like climate governance and participatory democracy. She developed the Cities and Climate Action Policy Clinic and co-authored the influential report 'States of Emergency: Democracy and participatory governance in Canadian municipalities during COVID-19.'
