Dr. Anne Thompson is a Senior Lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University’s Institute of Sport, specializing in sport management and policy. With over 20 years in the sports industry, she has held roles at Sport England, LOCOG, and regional development agencies. Her teaching focuses on professional skills development, sport events management, and organizational change. She currently supervises undergraduate research projects and teaches on units including L6 Enhancing Professional Skills and L5 Sport Events Delivery.
Her research examines organizational change in National Governing Bodies of Sport (NGBs), employee adaptation to top-down policies, and pandemic impacts on community sport. She is pursuing a PhD at the University of Chester exploring employee responses to change in NGBs. Dr. Thompson actively volunteers in event management, including UEFA Women’s EURO fan parties and wheelchair sports finals. She holds strong project management expertise, having managed large-scale policy initiatives and multi-stakeholder partnerships.
Her academic contributions span sport governance, policy development, and palliative care studies. She emphasizes career mentorship for students and advocates for practical industry connections in education. Office hours are Mondays 4-5pm (on-campus) and Wednesdays 9-10am (virtual).
