Anne Schaufele is an Assistant Professor of Law and Co-Director of the Immigration and Human Rights Clinic (IHRC) at the University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law since August 2023. She specializes in clinical legal education focusing on immigration law, human rights, and policy advocacy. Her work emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to serving marginalized communities, including immigrants in detention, LGBTQ+ individuals, and victims of domestic violence.
Prof. Schaufele holds a J.D. from American University, Washington College of Law, and a B.A. from DePauw University. Prior to academia, she practiced immigration and consumer law at Ayuda, managing Project END to combat notario fraud. She also served as a Fulbright Fellow in El Salvador researching post-deportation programs and human rights abuses.
Her research focuses on immigrant rights, legal empowerment, and clinical pedagogy. Notable contributions include publications in the Georgetown Immigration Law Journal and American University Journal of Gender, Social Policy & the Law. She is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and frequently engages in media commentary on immigration and consumer rights.
