About
Dr. Anne Savage is a Lecturer at Abertay University's Department of Built Environment and Life Sciences. She holds a PhD in Biochemistry from Cambridge University (1990) and has completed advanced qualifications in Analytical Chemistry, Computing Science, and Statistics. Her research focuses on applying image analysis techniques to breast cancer morphology, collaborating with the Breakthrough Research Unit in Edinburgh. She teaches pharmacology and statistics across multiple modules including HS0907A, HS0917A, and BI0806A.
- BSc (Hons) Pharmacology, University of Glasgow (1987)
- PhD Biochemistry, University of Cambridge (1990)
- PgD Analytical Chemistry, Glasgow Caledonian University (1995)
- Diploma in Computing Science, Open University (2000)
- PG Cert in Higher Education, Abertay/Dundee Universities (2012)
Her research combines 3D morphometric analysis with therapeutic interventions, particularly examining HER2 status and tamoxifen response. Current work explores 2D image analysis of breast cancer spheroids to differentiate hormone receptor statuses. Key collaborations include the Western General Hospital's Breakthrough Research Unit.
Recent publications (2023-2025) investigate environmental contaminants' impacts on weight loss and glycemic control during calorie-restricted diets. This work bridges environmental science and metabolic health, with implications for public health policy.
- Recipient: Daphne Jackson Fellowship (2009-2011)
- Funding: Melville Trust Vacation Scholarship (2012)
Teaching contributions include inquiry-based learning modules for biomedical science students, emphasizing quality by design principles. She has supervised datasets on psychoactive substances and advanced Fenton processes.
Outreach activities include speaking at the Women in Science Festival (2012) and judging projects at The Big Bang Scotland (2012).
