Anne Raymond

Dr. Anne Raymond is a Professor of Paleontology and Geobiology at Texas A&M University's Department of Geology and Geophysics. She holds the Earl Cook Professorship (2003–2008) and is currently President-Elect of the Paleontological Society. Her research focuses on Paleobotany, Geobiology, and Paleoecology, with specialties in coal-ball formation, ancient wetlands, and terrestrial organic carbon dynamics.

Education: A.B. in Geology from Harvard University (1977), Ph.D. in Geology from the University of Chicago (1983). Awards include Fellowships from the Geological Society of America (2020) and Paleontological Society (2015), and the Texas A&M College Teaching Award (2009, 1988).

Her research explores carboniferous coal swamps, marine influences on terrestrial deposits, and modern mangrove ecosystems as analogs for ancient environments. Recent work analyzes taphonomic processes in peat formation and seawater chemistry using echinoderms.
