About
Dr. Anne Plessis is a Lecturer in Plant Biosciences at the School of Biological and Marine Sciences, University of Plymouth, and serves as the BSc Biological Sciences programme leader. Her research focuses on plant ecophysiology, particularly how crops (especially cereals) respond to abiotic stresses like drought, heat, and soil salinity in real-world agricultural settings. She emphasizes translating laboratory findings to field conditions to address climate change threats to food security.
Research Priorities:
- Analyzing the impact of artificial experimental conditions on plant stress response studies
- Identifying optimal experimental conditions for field-applicable results
- Developing models for plant responses to complex environmental stressors
Teaching: Leads modules such as Plant Ecophysiology (BIOL235Z), Plant Biotechnology (BIOL301Z), and contributes to postgraduate skills training (BIO5131). Also teaches physiology, field biology, and pharmacology-related courses.
