Dr. Mohapatra's research focuses on Tamil language pedagogy, South Asian cultural dynamics, and media studies, with particular expertise in historical Tamil publications. Her academic work demonstrates a strong interdisciplinary approach combining linguistic, cultural, and gender perspectives on South Asian societies. Her master's thesis examining women's representation in the 1930s-40s Tamil magazine Cutēcamittiraṉ reveals her specialization in analyzing cultural transformations through media artifacts.
Prior to her academic appointment, Mohapatra gained significant professional experience in international development contexts, including project management for the 'Global Leadership Academy' at GIZ (2019-2021) and volunteer work with the Auroville Village Action Group in Tamil Nadu (2013-2014), which has informed her practical understanding of South Asian communities.
