Anne-Marie Perks

Anne-Marie Perks is an Associate Lecturer at Buckinghamshire New University, where she teaches in the BA (Hons) Animation program, including both on-campus and online delivery modes. She has been a faculty member since 2009 and began her teaching career in 2002, specializing in animation, illustration, and film pre-production within Further Education.

Her educational background includes an MA in Children’s Illustration, Illustration and Animation from the North Wales School of Art and Design.

Her research and creative practice centers on experimental visual narratives across multiple mediums. She explores sequential storytelling in graphic novels, narrative games, and both 2D and stop motion animation—with a particular focus on puppet and set creation. Her thematic interests lie at the intersection of myth, fairy tales, and magical realism, and how these influence contemporary visual storytelling forms.

While no peer-reviewed articles are listed, her body of work reflects a strong engagement with narrative innovation and inclusive visual communication, particularly through interdisciplinary and practice-based approaches.

• Co-author of two wordless books published by Books Beyond Words, designed for reluctant readers and individuals with learning disabilities.
